Eldorado by Edgar Allen Poe

Gaily bedight,
A gallant knight,
In sunshine and in shadow,
Had journeyed long,
Singing a song,
In search of Eldorado.

But he grew old -
This knight so bold -
And o'er his heart a shadow
Fell as he found
No spot of ground
That looked like Eldorado.

And, as his strength
Failed him at length,
He met a pilgrim shadow -
"Shadow," said he,
"Where can it be -
This land of Eldorado?"

"Over the mountains
Of the Moon,
Down the Valley of the Shadow,
Ride, boldly ride,"
The shade replied -
"If you seek for Eldorado!"

Alliteration is used in the second stanza with an f sound and the words "fell as he found".

Alliteration is also used in the last stanza with the words "mountains" and "moon" (m sound).

"Eldorado" is repeated at the end of every stanza to show how desperate the knight is to find it.

Alliteration is used the second to last line with an r sound (Ride, boldy ride).

Enjambment is used in the first and second lines of the last stanza (Over the mountains Of the moon).

I think this poem is about determination. Although I think Eldorado was Heaven in the end and the knight died, he tried hard to find it until the end. He believed the lost city of Eldorado was out there, and he was determined to find it.
