I thought The Hunger Games had a very original and creative concept, but the story was poorly executed. I think the book would have been much better if it had been written in third person instead of first. This would have let the readers see if Katniss’ endless accusations of peoples’ character were true. I also found the author’s writing a bit wordy and over-explanatory at times. I thought the start to the book was slow, but it got better as the story progressed. I think if the author would have spread out information about Katniss’ past throughout the book, it wouldn’t have started out so boring. Instead, she tells you Katniss’ life story right at the beginning, making it feel sort of like you were reading a biography.
Once the author switched her focus to the actual Games, the book took off, and it was much more enjoyable to read. I started to like the characters more, now that there were other people besides Katniss. By the end of the book, I still didn’t like Katniss, but I wanted to know how the story ended. I also liked how the story had all kinds of different aspects to it: action, fighting, romance, and drama. I think it has a little something in it for everyone.
